Kangaroos, finally!

After having been in the country of kangaroos for a few months, having only seen one kangaroo that almost ended up under the car is a bit disappointing. Not that I had expected kangaroos to hop through the streets, but I thought I might see some in a natural park. Apparently not.
Just when I started to believe that kangaroos were one big lie, someone gave me the advice to go to Morisset mental hospital. Not sure if this was a secret hint to tell me that I was crazy, or if I would really find kangaroos there, I decided to take my chances. So one weekend I got into the car with Peter and his friend Paige. We drove to lake Macquarie first, because I wasn’t a too sure about directions, but lake Macquarie was the right direction. Strolling along the lake, we found some pelicans. Interesting, but not what I was searching for. If we were close to the mental hospital now, I thought the kangaroos wouldn’t stay on the hospital grounds, so they should be here in the park too. No kangaroo to be seen. Hoping I wouldn’t make a fool of myself dragging others to the mental hospital to see kangaroos, we kept searching for a while and found the mental hospital we’d been looking for. With it, came hundreds and hundreds of kangaroos. Wild ones, to be clear. They got used to people being there to look at them and feed them, but they were free to go where they liked. They didn’t though. Some smart ones hopped next to the road that lead to the mental hospital, so they would be the first to be spotted and the first to get food, but besides from that, they didn’t really go anywhere and posed nicely for our photo’s. They let us pet them and feed them and they would even chase us to grab the food out of our hands. Amazing. Except for Peter. With or without food, he was completely ignored by the kangaroos. Unless when he came too close, they would run off. I think these animals are trying to tell you something, Peter. Anyway, this gave me a good reason to laugh and have a very good day at a mental hospital, with ice-creams as an ending. Yum!

Hoi Kirsten,
Leuke foto's hoor, grappige beesten, maar wel toevallig dat ze bij het mental hospital zaten. Er zaten toevallig geen ritsen onder het bontlaagje haha, je weet nooit zo dichtbij wat voor mafkezen er rondhuppen!
Maar dat zijn toch niet alle kangoeroes van heel Aussieland die daar zitten hoop ik.
Ik ben trouwens een keer op Gibraltar geweest, je weet wel bekend van de apen, nou ik heb echt GEEN ene aap gezien, ook niet op de rots, en ook niet bij t ziekenhuis trouwens.
Nog een gezellige tijd die je nog rest, en je ziet r goed uit hoor zo tussen de kangoeroes in bijna wintertijd lekker in een t shirt, toppie zeg!

Weer een geweldig verslag en wat een gave foto's. Sta je gewoon midden tussen de kangaroes!!!! Echt een super ervaring moet dat zijn!

Het gaat je wel erg goed hoor wat ik allemaal van je te zien krijg!!
En dan op die brug, zelfs hier in dat vlakke Nederland kreeg ik al het zweet in mijn handen toen ik je zo zag. Hoe kom je toch zo ondernemend.

Gerrit, geen apen in Gibraltar? haha. Ik kan me nog wel herinneren dat er bij ons een aap door het raampje de auto in klom. Aan de andere kant van de auto rende broertjelief de auto uit haha.
Maar we zijn niet in Gibraltar, maar in Australië en ik heb nog heeeel veel meer kangoeroes gezien. Geen wilde koala's nog though :( Bedankt voor al jullie lieve reacties!
